A few simple rules:
-the cat is a
carnivore: his power must be based on meat or fish
-the ideal is to be
autonomous:
Ensure that
permanently his filled Bowl. This avoids many behavior problems: the cat does
not come to beg, he feeds his hunger and his pace, he is not a guzzler to make
reserves "for the case where until next time".
-the cat needs minerals and vitamins
-the bowl should not be placed next
to the litter box
A cat does not eat at
the same place where he made his needs; so either he sulked cat (in the best of
cases) or he sulked his litter and make its needs elsewhere (understand: where
you didn't have it by planned: on the carpet in the entrance, on the couch...)
Commercial food:
I have serious doubts
about the quality of these products, whatever their origin and their price. It
is very expensive and of dubious composition what they say.
The problems of
obesity, tooth decay and cholesterol correspond roughly to the marketing of these
products.
· Prepare
yourself the grub of the cat: I recommend it WARMLY
About twice a week (15
minutes):
-Cook 2-3 handfuls
of rice (a first prize will do) with a clove of garlic cut into small
pieces
Garlic is a natural
dewormer; in these quantities, it is beneficial for the cat. Cooked, it is
perfectly digestible. It also makes hair very soft and shiny.
-Add a few
vegetables
For vitamins. Take
what you have on hand, the cats eat all vegetables except onions. When I'm in a
hurry I use a box first prize in Macedonia (tastes differ according to cats,
you realize quickly... mine prefer peas and carrots, but neglects the green
beans!)
-Add a source of
protein, up to 70% of the grub
I use a big box of tuna,
whole sardines (count €2 the kilo, and cats love) or canned, fish when it is on
sale at Picard, scraps of meat when we eat...
Here again what you
have on hand is fine; on the other hand, vary feeding the cat will make it less
difficult!
-Mix everything in a
big tuperware, that you will keep in the fridge.
At the time of
serving, I sprinkle the bowl of wheat germ.
My cat is healthy, has
a beautiful hair, and purring like crazy whenever he gets a sardine!
· If
your cat is already accustomed to the slops or croquettes of trade:
- Observe a phase of transition, as it will refuse at first his Bowl:
- Gradually mix in small quantities of rice to his usual Bowl.
- Then add the vegetables.
- Then add the tuna.
- Finally, phase out the croquettes or commercial dog food.
It is a process that
can take several days, depending on the age and the adaptability of your cat:
courage, you will succeed! I thus "desensitized" Jack of his kibble,
today it will not eat in the bowls of the other cats in the neighborhood)
